We are very proud to add these spectacular new Handmade Martingale collars to our site! These special dog collars come in three widths and offer two choices of hardware, brass or silver tone. The wide width Martingale dog collar is used primarily by Sight hounds such as the regal Saluki and Grey Hounds. The Sight hound Breed needs wide collars to protect their trachea when walking on a lead. A more narrow collar can collapse the trachea in a breed with long slender necks if the dog lunges suddenly. The Martingale collar also is an excellent choice for smaller breeds such as Whippets, Italian Greyhounds or Min-Pins.

The Martingale dog collar is also specifically designed with a unique release feature built into it's design that is very good for dogs which have a tendency to pull on their lead when walking. The Martingale collar will tighten gently on the dog's neck if he pulls and will release when the dog stops pulling and walks as he should by your side.

The Martingale collar is very nice for other large and smaller breeds as well and that is why most of our collars are offered in three widths...1", 1½" and two inch. All our Martingale collars are completely handmade using the finest materials and we're sure you will love them once you try them. The ribbons used in the collars include imported silks, jacquards, tapestries as well as some retro designs. HOW THE MARTINGALE COLLAR WORKS ON YOUR DOG'S NECK

Quality Martingale collars are highly recommended for all sight hounds, Salukis and any dog breed which has a ling slender neck. A well-fit, quality Martingale collar will prevent these breeds from experiencing the excruciating pain of a collapsed trachea which can occur if they wear a thin collar not designed specifically for these breeds.

To measure your dog for a Martingale Collar, use a soft tape measure or a piece of string and take the measurements at point A, B, and C in the drawing below.  Choose the size that fits within this range to ensure that your collar fits perfectly.

For Sight Hounds, the measurement at points A and B may be the same or very similar, this is because their heads are often the same size or smaller than their necks.  For non-Sight Hounds, these measurements will be different and you will need to choose a collar size that is large enough to slip over the head (point A) but not too large to fit correctly at point B.

 In other words, choose the smallest size that will still fit your dog.  If your dog has a 15 inch neck, choose the Medium, which is adjustable from 13-18 inches rather than the Large, which is adjustable from 15-20 inches.
